Improve your flexibility, endurance, strength, and balance through the use of yoga. The Shanti Center provides an intimate, non-competitive environment to practice your Hatha yoga. Our small classes provide you with high quality, individual attention. Postures can be modified to accommodate your needs and a guided relaxation will end each yoga session.
Yoga has been in practice for over 5000 years and has expanded into the yoga we use today. By using body alignment and breath, along with poses, it reduces stress and improves self-confidence. Vinyasa Yoga is a variation that combines poses, strength, and balance with flowing movement.
Yoga is not a religion but a science that complements any sect. It opens the mind along with the body. Yoga is often portrayed in the media as a bunch of pretzel poses for flexible women. Yoga was actually intended for men in the beginning, and women were not even allowed to do yoga when it started thousands of years ago. The advantages to be gained from practicing yoga are many, and those benefits are not limited to women or men. Flexibility, relaxation, focus, and strength are benefits that both men and women strive to attain.
So if you hesitant to try yoga because you don’t know much about it, we invite you to come to a class and try it for yourself.
Each class is about an hour. Please bring your mat, or if you don’t have one we have some available to borrow. Dress in comfortable clothes and expect to sweat.
We take walk-ins for all of our classes! View the Prices page for more information. No sign-ups except for Family Yoga, Bebe Yoga, and Yogini Belly.
Yoga Form and Function - a style of yoga that heavily draws from the Iyengar tradition, the hallmark of which is precise alignment. Iyengar is a vigorous approach that emphasizes a balance between strength, flexibility and endurance. The use of straps, blocks, mats, blankets and a number of other "props" may be employed to assist individuals in attaining various yoga postures, which are generally held longer than in other styles. This focus on form draws the attention inward, and the asanas become an active meditation.
Ashtanga Based Vinyasa Yoga - involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures—a process producing internal heat and purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind.
